Music!

OK, so on Facebook I have liked a page called Christian Memes, you can find a link to it here. There was a day where the founder of the page started posting stuff about DC Talk. Most people my age only know about DC talk because they know that TobyMac was a part of DC Talk. A lot of times that is the only thing they know about DC Talk or they might also know one song, Jesus Freak. On that same day, a younger Admin(OK, I’m assuming the Admin was younger…) of the page apologized for being introduced to “old school Christian hip-hop” and as a way to get over it, they offered a song by the rapper Lecrae. This ensued a battle between DC Talk and Lecrae on the page and in my opinion it was quite comical. The whole thing started with the founder posting a status update saying “Favorite DC Talk song… GO! Favorite? Who am I kidding? Favorite ALL the songs!!!!”  and then later posts a song from DC Talk, which you can find here. When the younger admin posted the apology, he posted a song by Lecrae, which can be found at this location.

I later started to think about similarities between DC Talk and Lecrae and I found an interesting combination of two songs, one from DC Talk, and one from Lecrae, that in my opinion, sound amazing to listen back-to-back. The song would be the stereotypical DC Talk song Jesus Freak and Lecrae’s song Fanatic. Even though I am talking about DC Talk and Lecrae, I am going to post links to these songs, but Jesus Freak isn’t going to be DC Talk’s version. I will be including Newsboys version of the song, one because I like their version, it isn’t bad at all, and when I noticed the sweetness of these songs compared I listened to Newsboys version and not DC Talk. This was done because I have Newsboys version in my iTunes library and not DC Talk’s.

I also had a conversation on Facebook about people being labeled. I made this statement in regards to how I felt about that topic. “I’m sorry, I’m a person not a product, no need to label me.” Our society has us looking for an identity in various different things, which made me think of a song. This song would happen to be called Identity and it is by Lecrae. I really like this song, because of the message that it gives, so I would urge you to check it out here. Another song by Lecrae that fits the situation is Take Me As I Am.

You may be wondering, what exactly was the point of this post, and the point would be the music! The beauty of music is it helps us express what we are thinking, when it is hard to think of words to describe what we are feeling or what we want to say. It can sometimes be difficult to articulate thought processes that are occurring. Even though I have become such a better writer over the years, with my senior year really being the starting point of an increasingly improving writing ability, I still often times have trouble thinking of what it is I want to say. That is why I love music, because when I can’t think of the words to say, I just need to turn to music and I can find a song that expresses it perfectly.
